PNR Looking to the Draft

The Pacific Northwest Rangers are looking forward to next month's Big Time Soccer League Draft. Said club president, owner, and general manager Danny H, "We look forward to selecting the best possible players for the upcoming season. We have an umber of attack minded players we would love to add to the roster."

Who those players are remain a secret. "We can't divulge that information at this time because this is a competitive business" continued Danny H. "I'm not saying other GMs will copy our plan of attack, but there are always going to be 'sleepers' in a draft that you don't want to tip your hand about. Sure teams will go after players the caliber of a Landon Donovan or Dwayne DeRosario, but the middle rounds is where you make a season."

Coming in as an expansion side PNR have looked at trading picks in the upcoming draft for players on current BSL sides. One notable player in recent talks was Justin Braun. The young U.S. National Team prospect had a break-out season of sorts last year and should continue to do well next season. Said the PNR head man, "Justin is a talented player and one we seriously considered bringing in prior to the draft. It didn't work out because of some uncertainty surrounding his competition at the forward spot next season."

Braun would have been a great player for a new team to build around. He's established enough to be effective now, but young enough to build around. The only problem is, again, who he is competing against next season. There are quite a few young forwards that might be better suited for the young franchise PNR.

Stay tuned for more updates and news from PNR heading into the draft in a month's time.

Widmer Brothers Stadium

Portland's newest soccer team, The Pacific Northwest Rangers released an artist's rendition of what their stadium will look like when completed. The 25,000 seat stadium will be named "Widmer Brothers Stadium" after a local brewery, now owned by Anheuser-Busch.

PNR will begin drafting their players in the annual BSL Superdraft beginning March 1st.

Pacific Northwest Rangers - Newest Expansion Side in BSL

An ownership group in Portland, Oregon has revealed they will organize a squad to compete in the Bigtime Soccer League beginning next year.

Said the new owner and general manager DannyH, "Portland, Oregon is Soccer City USA and it's time we had a BSL squad. We fully anticipate the team to compete from day one, despite the fact that we're an expansion side."

What will the new side be called? Well, there were 5 finalists. They were:

Rose City FC
Oregon United
Pacific Northwest Rangers
Oregon SC
FC Columbia

After an extensive online, and in-stadium vote the winning name was revealed. The team will be known as:

PACIFIC NORTHWEST RANGERS

Fans have already begun calling the team "PNR" fir short. Some fans have even been calling the team "Ganj" in reference to the squad's green uniforms which remind many of marijuana (which is legal for medicinal purposes in Oregon).

The team will open up in a new 25,000 seat stadium in downtown Portland. The stadium will be called "Widmer Brothers Stadium", named after the club's primary sponsor Widmer Brothers Brewing. Widmer will also be the club's jersey sponsor for each of the next four seasons.

"We're excited to begin the new year and look forward to creating a club that will compete and represent our fans well" continued DannyH. "We can't wait for the draft."

More to come on the new team's ventures soon.
